Entry #24: Educating a Family Member About Computer Safety

Today I had my younger sister, Ameera download an Anti Virus Software on her computer and do a deep system scan. In regards to computer safety, a new thing I learned that I hadn't previously understood was how to create a strong password, like what are the steps to take in order to create a unique password that I understand but is also undecipherable to most.

Entry #10: Take-Home Achievement, Analysing Connection
What is our e-Life package? We are subscribed to e-Life Entertainment, which offers 50 mbps Broadband speed.
Analysing the data. The results of this observation show that the morning, around 9 am, is the best time for Internet usage. It has the most mbps and is quicker, at a speed of 27.93 mbps. The slowest time would be at around 12 pm, where I measured the speed to be 0.36 mbps.

My Unplugged Experience
I started my day at 1 pm on the dot, for organisation purposes.
Of course, at the beginning, I immediately knew what I was going to do: read. Reading is a hobby of mine and something I needed to catch up on; I'd been getting a little behind due to university work. So I read "Harry Potter & The Order of the Pheonix" for around a half hour before losing interest. I went downstairs to make myself some tea and busied myself with another book ("A Wild Sheep Chase" by Haruki Murakami). I then decided to organise the drawers under my bed; I'd been meaning to for a while and now since I had nothing to do, I decided to do it. I happened to throw away a bunch of things.
I couldn't go downstairs and do something because the all the electronics in the house were there, including two TV's and my laptop. So I just decided to catch up on my projects for school in my room; I'm an art major and I have a sketchbook project in which I replicate the architectural properties of any cultural structure. Our professor advised us to spend around an hour each day sketching, so I did that. The next hour and a half, I did work in my sketchbook. I love drawing so I tend to get lost in time while doing it and when I finished it was already around 4:40, and by then I took a nap until 6 pm because I was really tired.
Luckily, I had plans for that day anyway. My friend came over and we went out to dinner, and I must say, that it was very strange not to look at my phone every now and then; I left my phone at home and my friend was utterly confused as to why I was doing this project. She'd had to call my house phone and I told my brother to answer it because I wasn't allowed to. I did annoy a lot of people in this project, so there's an upside to everything. We had Italian food at Il Forno's. It was delicious and we spent around two and a half hours in the mall; malls are a good way to waste time, you always lose track of how long you've been there.
The drive (which was in silence, without music, which really bothered me) took up some time and it was sort of frightening to notice how much I actually reached for my phone before noticing it wasn't there.
After we got home, I checked on the oven in the kitchen for the time and it was around 8:40 pm. I decided to stop the experiment there because my mom wanted to watch "The Breakfast Club" with me, and honestly, how could I refuse?
The experiment was pretty fun to do. It was enlightening to see how long I could last. I usually spend most of the day on my laptop, blogging and watching videos. I often find myself trying to look for something to do on my laptop actually.
I love my phone and my computer but once in a while, a break is good. Sitting down all day is bad for your back anyway and it was fun to participate in something this interesting.
